Barbara Angius Saxby, Managing Director

Barbara Angius Saxby founded Accelent to help software companies accelerate global business and marketing strategies. She specializes in positioning, messaging and market analysis for enterprise and internet-based application, infrastructure and service companies. Barbara is a senior marketing executive with over 20 years in strategic marketing management and has done extensive work internationally.

Client work for public companies include and a long-term global CMO assignment for an Indian-based application company (publically traded in India) and market analysis projects for PeopleSoft, Sun Microsystems and Neoforma. VP of Marketing and strategic assignments at start-up companies include Vello, CaseCentral, Ramco Systems, Xcalia, ClairMail, Kabira, Above All Software, Bridgestream, KnowNow, Reactivity, Resonate, Netscreen, Kapow, Ketera, Ravenflow, Agent Software, Accept Software, Wakesoft, Extricity, uRoam, Taviz, Kirus, ECNet, and BrightInfo.

Prior to her consulting career, Barbara was VP of Marketing at Infoscape and Director of Marketing for Ziff Davis (Windows Solutions Conference and Exhibition). She worked at Dataquest for nine years as an analyst and marketer and spent two years establishing a research division in Europe. Before Dataquest, she spent 3 years as an evaluation consultant in Rehab R&D for Stanford University and the VA Hospital. She has B.S. degrees in Psychology and Sociology from San Jose University and completed post-graduate business courses at UC Berkeley in international marketing and software venture financing.

Richard Treadway, Principal

Richard is a senior executive with over 25 years of product development and marketing experience. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of product development and go-to-market strategies with a proven track record of delivering innovative products on time and within budget.   Richard's background is distinguished by a unique blend of engineering and marketing experience with an accomplished ability to get things done.  As a marketing consultant Richard specializes in helping companies develop effective product messaging and positioning and is very active in developing new products and markets with Web 2.0 technologies for consumer and internet-driven companies.

His most recent interim VP of Marketing assignments include Curl, a platform to easily develop rich internet applications, and Kabira, next generation transaction processing for high-volume, internet- driven business processes. Prior to consulting, Richard served as VP of Marketing and Strategy for KnowNow, a start-up delivering enterprise syndication technologies.  Richard also served as Vice President of Products at AvantGo, a leading provider of mobile enterprise software, where he was responsible for determining product direction and strategy, as well as, overseeing engineering and product management. Prior to AvantGo, Richard served as Vice President of Engineering and Product Management for BEA Systems where he led efforts in developing BEA WebLogic Portal. He held various executive management positions at SCO and Digital Equipment Corporation where he was instrumental in the creation of the X Window and Motif standards. Richard holds an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Vermont and a B.A. in Sociology from Alfred University.

Andy Sayare, Principal

Andy is a senior business executive with over 20 years of leadership experience with technology companies. Andy helps accelerate the growth of technology companies as an interim VP of Marketing and strategic project work with a focus on product marketing and communications. A few of Andy’s recent consulting projects include messaging and collateral creation for new products for Salesforce.com; strategic consulting and sales tools development for CaseCentral; website, collateral creation, and demand generation programs to help relaunch Ramco Systems; messaging, validation and pipeline development of new vertical markets for a real-time BI software firm; messaging and identity for several channel organizations at a large biotech; and messaging and identity for a mortgage business process outsourcer.

Prior to consulting, Andy served as co-founder and Vice President of Marketing of OuterHarbor (now Edge Dynamics), a startup that delivers channel commerce management solutions to manufacturers. Andy also served as Vice President of Marketing for RedKlay, an eCommerce platform provider for manufacturers. Andy served as both Vice President of Marketing and Director of Technical and Product Marketing for Applicast, an Application Service Provider. Prior to Andy’s marketing roles, he was Director of Business Solutions for SDG, a strategy consulting firm, and Director of Advisory Services for DSCI (now Corio), a systems integrator and application service provider. Andy holds a B.S. degree in Information Systems Management from USF.

Chris Hutchins, Senior Marketing Consultant

Chris brings a unique background of marketing and business-starts with over fifteen years of experience in both consumer and enterprise focused companies. With Accelent, Chris applies his strategic business skills, creativity and his management abilities to ensure strategies translate into well executed programs. He has developed and managed numerous marketing initiatives including: brand and product positioning, integrated communications strategy, customer segmentation and analysis, CRM planning and execution, sales tools and collateral, public relations and the development of print/online advertising campaigns.

Before consulting, Chris was the CEO, Co-Founder of Edgewood Creek, a venture capital backed pioneer in the SaaS market providing web-based customer management tools to the $36B specialty food market. Chris developed the Edgewood Creek model and business plan that would be adopted by more than 50 grocery retailers and 200 suppliers nationwide. Prior to Edgewood Creek, Chris focused on corporate brand strategy and product launches for such clients as Motorola, Interwoven, Fujitsu, AMD, Xircom and Go.com (Disney’s online division). Chris holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Theresa Maloney, Senior PR Consultant

Theresa is a results-driven senior PR professional who has developed strategic communications programs for public and private companies for over 12 years. Theresa has extensive experience counseling venture capital and venture-backed telecommunications and software companies in their marketing and communications efforts. She supports Accelent clients on an interim management role or project basis and brings an excellent balance of strategic vision with overall operational marketing execution expertise. She excels at positioning and messaging and developing programs to achieve actionable results. As a PR specialist, her emerging technology clients include Kennet Partners, Brand New World, Convey Software, Crystal Ventures, Lifespire, Logware, OmniSky, PointBase, and Telecom Asset Management Group.

Her agency experience is vast with marquee industry leaders. She was a key member of Fleishman-Hillard's San Francisco technology and telecommunications practice - client included Nortel Networks, SBC Communications, IDT Winchip, and Kaiser Permanente. Theresa joined Schwartz Communications to work solely with the emerging technology and healthcare industries. Her teams took eBay through its legendary IPO, and launched Sapient Health Network, a company that would become WebMD. Theresa has held two director-level positions in privately held companies, and a senior management position at a communications agency where her software and communications clients included Wily Technology, Symphony Services, Glimmerglass, and Trigo Technologies (acquired by IBM in March 2004).

Meghan O'Leary, Marketing Consultant

Meghan O’Leary is a marketing professional with over fifteen years of experience. After honing her skills at agencies like Addwater, Organic Online and Poppe Tyson Interactive, she became an independent marketing communications professional in 2001. Meghan works with software companies to develop a deep understanding of their customer needs and to create or refine brand strategies and positioning/messaging platforms which can be extended into relevant and compelling communications, including print brochures, sales collateral and Web sites. She is a strong writer and develops strategic content for sales presentations, Web sites, brochures, data sheets, press releases, case studies, and has a lot of experience creating and executing lead generation programs as an integral component of the marketing mix.

Her past experience includes developing and executing strategic communications for companies such as Opdex, Panoratio, Sony PlayStation, Nortel, HP, Blue Nile, Plantronics, SeeBeyond Technologies, Accel Partners, Accrue Software, Alterian, Francisco Partners, KLA-Tencor, and Silver Lake Partners.

Mary Erickson, PR Consultant

Mary has more than 15 years of public relations experience in the high technology arena. Mary's PR focus is enterprise software and her experience ranges from start-ups to Fortune 1,000 companies. For several years, Mary managed partner public relations for BEA Systems. In this role she managed significant marketing relationships with BEA partners in key horizontal areas, such as CRM, integration, document management, and security, as well as market-leading systems integrators. She began with BEA managing analyst relations at the corporate level. Before BEA, Mary managed the Enterprise Computing Group for Blanc & Otus Public Relations, working with clients such as BEA, Baan, Aurum, Sybase, and VeriSign.

Mary's previous clients include Kabira Technologies, Onyx Software, Above All Software, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Polaroid, Radcliffe College, Sybase, and The Delahaye Group. Mary has a master's degree from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley.

Marcia Kaplan, Market Research Consultant

Marcia is a marketing strategy and market research specialist who has been consulting since 1993. Marcia helps high-tech companies identify what they can achieve and what they should avoid. She is skilled at designing results-oriented qualitative research for Fortune 1000 firms. Project work focuses on competitive analysis, market sizing, market opportunity assessment, market segmentation, customer satisfaction and channel strategies. Clients include HP, Cisco Systems, 3 Com, SGI, Adobe Systems and Business Objects.

Prior to starting her consulting practice, Marcia worked as Director of Custom Research and Director of Research for two Silicon Valley market research and consulting firms. She holds an MBA from San Jose State University, a Masters in Urban Planning from Hunter College, CUNY, and a B.A. in Sociology from SUNY Binghamton.
